I want to like Jaguars as much as I do some of Land Rover's products (I just love the PLA platform RR and RR Sport) but the only one I really could see myself buying is the XJ because of how much I like its driving demeanour. And frankly, those are the wrong reasons for which to like a car in that class. It's brilliant in areas of the brief that carry far less consumer-importance when compared to cars like the 7er and new S-Class; areas like driver involvement, handling and dynamics. The fact is is that the XJ is less well put together, less up-to-date in interior systems and less spacious than its equivalent competitors. So why on Earth would I want one over an E63 AMG? I wouldn't.
The F-Type is a deeply compromised product too - sandwiched in between two of Porsche's finest - with no objective superiority over either of them.
