SLR [Official] McLaren Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C199 / R199 / Z199) is a grand tourer jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive and sold from 2003 to 2010. When the car was developed, Mercedes-Benz owned 40 percent of the McLaren Group and the car was produced in conjunction between the two companies. The "SLR" name is an abbreviation for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), and was a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the car's inspiration. The car was offered in coupé, roadster and speedster bodystyles, with the latter being a limited edition model.
You mean this item? As a collecting item, yes. As a car, no. Since this is not a usable car at all.

Four wheels, two seats. Hmmm In places like California you can use this car on a sunny day the same way you would use a Z4. No problems at all. It's a high performance car and will have superb aerodynamic properties on a track, just like an F1 car.:)

To buy this car you have to be a die hard fan or just stinkin rich and a stinkin rich person would not buy one due to it being unusable.:usa7uh:

I don't think the car would have looked so cool or outrageous if it had a wind shield. Anyone knows if the car comes with goggles or helmets??

Mad, mad, mad car. When I saw spyshots I wasn't expecting such dramatic changes. This has blown me away.

Respect for MB and their heritage.

I just hope the SLC is given the same level of attention and resources to make it a top-notch supercar that can beat a Ferrari California in terms of comfort and chase down a Porsche GT3 on a race track.

Maybe I'm just dreaming.........................

Sorry I meant CLC. I think most of the guys got that.

Anyway this money could have easily been used to come up with a more respectable answer to the 1 and A3. Even if it was still a stop gap product and the money was only just enough to re skin the whole damn thing and shoehorn the new C interior inside.

Ahh damn i want to hear more for that engine:D

PS
Im getting tired of the haters..so i dont care anymore..hate on.
Imo if moss and them could drive cars without windshields on the dirtiest tracks 50 years ago..
Im sure you can manage to find a clean strip of road..and googles and a skull cap..
And enjoy this very unique car...
If not.. go and buy something else..
Or hold on..even if you want to you will have problems to buy it.. only 75 remember:)

It's comical how some are trying to think of buying this as some rational, practical decision. "well I would'nt buy one, cause I'd have to wear a helmet..blah, blah." Listen, if you can afford one, then I'm sure MB can throw in a front windshield, or you can afford to have one mounted.

This car goes beyond all that. Jay Leno and those of his ilk will have one, bet on it. And this shows that MB, despite their problems with the SLR can design and execute a true supercar.

Looks great and sounds amazing! I bet the engine noise is defening now without the windscreen. Now all we need to see is the interior.

People really seem to be missing the point of this car. If you read throughout its mentioned that this car is ONLY available to pre-existing SLR customers. Sure this one is not practical but the regular SLR is the practical supercar/GT. This is the brilliant showpiece which you can drive down from London or Paris to Monaco over the F1 weekend.

That being said, I don't particularly think its a very good looking car. Its incredibly striking and catches your eye but not necessarily beautiful. Not to say it looks ugly but it just looks brash and in your face. And that actually suits the profile of the SLR/SM buyer IMO. If given the choice however I wouldn't have bought one.

All this constant bickering from both sides is really pointless or childish to say the least.

It does appear to have two individual retractable windscreens -- which is quite cool.

^thats what i said..it seems to have windscreens..
Which then makes most of the ppls excuses invalid

Too bad the 'car' looks so freaking bad though. it looks like a weird bathtub on wheels.
Oh well, this car is a joke anyways, doesn't even need a press release or anything.

edit;
btw, if BMW had made such a car, I would have thought 'retarded' as well.

Lets see if this post also gets deleted..
You are not allowed to mention BMW in a super car thread
