GT [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.
For the official press release, see The New Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupé
The naming system is stupid. Still calling it a GT? Bring back the SLS name. Id imagine the price point will be considerably higher than the current gt63s

One thing is for sure, in the times of the EV, car manufacturers like mercedes and bmw are recognising the value in enthusiast clients who will spend money on their high margin models, and them serving as halos, something the Chinese cannot compete with at all.

In any case. Im planning to pick one up at 2-3 years old once it’s depreciated a bit
It’s a U turn.

It needs a 6.3L V8 to wear the SLS Name.

This indeed does look quite special.

Imagining it without the warpaint, wings and splitters, it would remind me of a modern interpretation of...THIS ! :

Branding/naming is in flux right up until launch time.

I think they want to have a family of "AMG GTs" in the same way that Porsche has a family of 911s. Although the 911 is the same fundamental car in all its applications, to my knowledge.

The curious thing is what they're gonna do with the MSA AMG GT once this comes out. Naturally, it'll be a much cheaper entry point, but its also not a thoroughbred sports car. They could slowly phase out the MSA GT63 and leave that exclusively for the SL, whilst replacing it with a detuned "GT TrackSport"?

Are they going to shelve the MSA platform entirely after the current run of the SL and GT are finished? Or will they upgrade it with stuff from the new GT platform?
Or is this new platform a derivative of MSA to begin with, just upgraded to be made from carbon and run a transaxle? An MSA2 if you will.

Many questions, but its all exciting.
Id imagine both models will exist side by side as they serve completely different purposes.

The gt coupe is easily outselling the SL

The current GT and SL's platform is completely new. It is not based on the previous MSA.

Turbo s is 1800kg no?
Apparently Porsche quotes the 992.1 Turbo S at 1650kg. Which is probably heavier than the other variants.

Which is probably why it's so fast 0-60. AWD, rear weight bias and <1700kg with 627lbft/850Nm and 650PS/641hp....? And the PDK power deployment.

The current AMG GT has an amazing launch off the line. Almost matching Porsche, but then the power:weight catches up and it loses.

Is this what it competes for within the range though? Isn't the GTS a mid-pack model in the Porsche range?
