S90/V90 [Official] Volvo S90 Official first pics

The Volvo S90 is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 2016 to 2025. Its estate variant is the Volvo V90.
WOW, it is pretty bold loking from some angles in that video. Definitely a welcome change, a breath of fresh air in this segment.

well i had seen the front like nearly 1 year back, and it is even more stunning in these pics, the interior is as expected and superb, what i love is the silhouette it looks like a coupe, much like the A7, i like it very much.. rear lights are the weak point, from some angles they look passable from other angles horrible.

but this is one kick ass volvo, im proud of my city, and also just wait for the V90, now that is something to see;)

Volvo deserves to be successful. This car is gorgeous both outside and inside. I was worried about the rear from those leaked model but it does look good from real life shot and video. And those interior is so beautiful. I am using W211 and W203 and before I was 100% sure I will replace W203 with W213. I am not sure about that anymore. If S90 can be equipped with air suspension and ride as good as W213, this could be my next car.

Volvo S90 Polestar and V90 Polestar to get hybrid power
Swedish firm's boss suggests 'sophisticated performance' and says focus will be on electrification; UK keen on a fast wagon V90

Volvo will launch high-performance versions of its new S90 saloon and forthcoming V90 estate, carrying Polestar badging and featuring hybrid powertrains, the company’s boss has revealed.

The new Volvo S90 was revealed today, with the standard Volvo V90 estates set to be revealed early next year. The Swedish brand’s new flagship saloon - which sits on the same Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) as the XC90 SUV - is designed to take on the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6, as well as the Jaguar XF.

All of those executive saloon rivals have hot versions, though - and the German brands in particular sell a wide range of add ons and suspension and body kits branded with their respective performance divisions. Volvo now owns its Polestar division, which grew from its involvement in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, and is seeking to expand its remit.

Volvo must follow its rivals, according to the company’s boss Håkan Samuelsson. “You could have a high-performance variant [of the S90] without leaving the brand,” he said. “You could still have a nice car with smart design and functionality, but what’s wrong with a little performance?

“Right now we have the S60 and V60 as Polestar variants, and we believe in the [Polestar] brand - that’s why we bought it. So now we’re looking at using it more on performance cars within the family.”

Samuelsson also suggested that Polestar’s future direction would include hybrid models: “How we bring the brand to market is open, but one way we are definitely looking at is for Polestar to focus on electrification.”

That comment was supported by Volvo’s R&D chief Peter Mertens, who said, “Polestar will still be sophisticated performance; it’s not just a case of doing a ‘boy racer’ by dropping a big engine in there. Hybrid power is the direction that Polestar will go in. In a way, Tesla has legitimised electric performance, although Polestar will be more sophisticated again. We want to be able to offer high performance without regrets.”

The UK market is likely to favour a V90 Polestar mega-wagon over the fast saloon variant. Indeed, the V60 Polestar is sold in the UK but the S60 is not.

“If you look at what Audi does with its fast wagons then it is an interesting proposition,” said Volvo UK managing director Nick Connor. “I’d say a wagon is more likely for us than a Polestar version of the S90, because we have the heritage there from our days with the 850 in the British Touring Car Championship, but we know we must get our core models right before we go out and play.”

Connor also highlighted the current conflict between Volvo’s current environmental-led image and its Polestar division. However, he said the growing interest in hybrid vehicles, and Volvo’s commitment to sell a plug-in hybrid version of every car it launches, could help to tie the two sides together.

“Polestar optimising the T8 hybrid powertrain would be very interesting,” he said. “That would present a very interesting technical solution, with the ultimate power being combined with an environmental powertrain.

“Look at what Tesla have done with things like Ludicrous mode. TheTesla Model S isn’t a performance car, but by adding in elements of performance they have got people talking about it as if it is.”

It's Volvo's new system called PowerPulse.

It's an electric pump that compresses clean intake air into that storage tank. This compressed air is then fed via a valve to the exhaust manifold in order to increase the exhaust gasses pressure, so that you get a reduced turbo lag when you want rapid acceleration.

Here's a video with a better explanation:

Cute solution. Sodastream turbo boost. Only problem is the fact that it's driven by an auxiliary compressor pump. Just another component and associated system to go wrong.

A compelling effort. Handsome in a "Nouvo-Jaguar meets Audi" sort of manner.

Yip that's the one I'm waiting for, if it's on the money I could see myself back in a Volvo in 3 years time when I replace the A6.

Handsome car with great proportion, clean looking interior with nice attention to details...
This car will steal some sales from 5-series/E-class/A6...

Indeed yes.

Throughout my S60's ownership I have found out a few swedish engineering quirks, solutions to an already solved problem, done quite differently from the Germans, that result in a slightly better driver experience, yet are prone to failure.

Such an example is the clutch pressure release bearing that is used to depress the clutch's radial spring, as opposed to the traditional "fork". It gives you better feeling to the clutch pedal, but it will break eventually. And when it does, you have to take down the whole goddamn transmission.

....The resurgence and rejuvenation of Volvo continues. What's the next all new model after V90?.

New generation of compact-models and I suppose the new S60 too.

I told in the other thread seeing the miniatures. The design from the front is good, similar to the XC90, but the rear has one very rare design. I think the taillights are very big and give one appearance of one chinese design. The C-pillar looks like a bit big, maybe because the third windows is too much little. Isnt' as elegant as new E-Class and, of course and for me, this car isn't competitor for S-Class and 7-Series if it's the intention from volvo.

I think Volvo found designing the S90 to be more challenging than the XC90 which from all angles is perfect. Unlike the S90 it doesn't have any unsavoury details and is more than a match for it's German equivalents.

I would expect that with Volvo's Chinese backing, The potential for an S-Klasse rival does exist but not today. I would certainly push forward on a more appealing especially to the Chinese market a four dr Coupe. In other words Hypothetically speaking an S80.

Agree, they do have the potential and perhaps in a few years with growing prestige, even a real chance. I for one would welcome a Volvo S-Klasse rival.

A long wheelbase S90 is more likely than an S-class competitor. Volvo dont even have a V8, let alone a 6 cylinder engine to compete with an E550

I am mighty impressed by the overall looks of this car, it's very sleek. I especially like the 3/4 front view and profile. The front overhang looks nice and short for a FWD car, Audi take note. Rear lights are the worst feature they sought of remind me of some American cars from the 70!s and 80's. The interior is magnificent and certainly a breath of fresh air in this segment, lovely wood and use of aluminum metal beading on the wood. The jewel like gearshift and also the touch screen as well as the slim and superbly comfortable looking seats will make this car a pleasure to spend time in on long journeys.
