GLS [Renders] 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS (GL successor)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.

I hope it works out. I feel like Merc almost need to top of the line SUVs. One no-nonsense 7 seater that compete with the Escalade/Tahoe etc, and an out-right sexy luxury SUV that rivals the RR. I fear a big 7 seater GLS will look like a fridge and lack swagger against the Cayenne and next generation Range Rovers.

After all, Mercedes followed up on the SLS with the AMG GT even though the SL and S-Coupe exist. Surely their SUV offer deserve some credible options at the top end.

Well the Cayenne is not a direct competitor to the GLS, that is what the GLE is for. I think they'll do it, if they execute like they do the S-Class, AMG GT, SL (design aside) etc.

Going to be awesome seeing this and the X7 go head to head. They will be launched within 6-12 months of each other.

The GLE has no hope against the X5. It's always mercedes bastard child.

Based on what we have seen so far, the GLS will have nothing to worry about.

Seems huge Grilles are all the rage these days...

Mercedes has been doing huge grilles for well over a decade. 2007 GL550:

This camouflaged doesn't give out much details except few - rear door look wider seems to have more second row room, third row window also look longer. Wheel arch seems to be mix of squared round design. The hood however is dummy, but if it's maintained that height & posture it would definitely will look massive.

What? The GLE has always outsold the X5. It's a different vehicle with different appeal. The next gen is shaping up to be a huge leap forward.

The GLS needs more back seat room than the GLE. Up until now the interior dimensions for front and 2nd row have been identical. This isn't acceptable in this competitive market.

That video looks like a LWB model, possibly the Maybach version?

M
All the pics so far have been the same wheelbase, so i don't think this is the maybach. I'd say that will follow a while after the next gen has had significant testing.
