1 Series [Renders] BMW 1 Series Sport Cross

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
Here is a closer look at Xcite or Sport Cross.
The execution is not far off on how BMW aim to position this as a premium Urban crossover but with typical X vehicle solidity.
It will be small , youthful and very appealing. The roof line is very dynamic with the central section of the roof available with full panoramic view or indeed can be specified in contrasting color.

An Urban SUV really Scott? Really?

Urban crossover

I saw "Whiplash" yesterday. J.K. Simmons said that "there are no two more harmful words in the english language that good job".

I have to rephrase that one. There are no two more harmful words in the english language that urban crossover.

MINI Countryman is classified as an urban crossover as is other compact SUVs. It is the segment they compete in.
With diversity and progress it is no longer specific segments that matter.

In 2018, BMW plans to unleash a new crossover in the premium market.

Considered a niche model, the 1 Series Sport Cross or XCite, will straddle two segments. It will be neither a 1 Series “SUV” nor a downsized X1, but it will likely be badged the 1 Series Sport Cross when it hits the market. The crossover is based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform and would sit below the second-generation BMW X1, also a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive crossover.

The BMW 1 Series Sports Cross aims to extend the next generation 1 Series which will move to a front-wheel drive layout. German magazine Auto Motor und Sport published the first renderings of this new crossover.

Rumormill churns out that a five-door hatch will arive in 2018 and a three-door variant a year later. The exterior and interior design will also be different from today’s BMW lineup. Although BMW’s design freeze is still several months away, most proposals are quite progressive and polarizing, sources say. The design could feature a compact greenhouse on top of a muscular body; a wide stance; a long nose, long roof, and wide track; and an edgy mix of M Sport and X-line styling elements.

XCite will be available with three- and four-cylinder engines and with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

BMW aims to compete in this quirky segment with the Citroën C4 Cactus and the Nissan Juke.

I know we are still in this 6 month but do you know how the board is thinking about this model at this time?

They are looking at the proposals.
It needs to be a reinvention of a crossover so it has to polarise opinion but still introduce something never seenbefore

There is nothing to reinvent. The crossover concept has exhausted all the available permutations unless BMW attempts to deliver a beach buggy crossed with a van crossed with a sports car crossed with a sedan. Eventually, each genre in the mix will cancel another out until you end up with:

Whatever it is I am sure there is a good reason why nobody else has done it.

There is always the inevitable two seat roadster crossover with a retractable panoramic cloth-metal roof.

... And then a four door version of that.

... And then a two door version of the four door version of the two door version. Which will be sold a premium compared to the original two door version.

See… the possibilites are endless.:banghead::sick::cry:

BMW Urban Cross coming in 2017 with unique styling inside & out
New details are starting to emerge about BMW's upcoming entry-level crossover that will slot below the X1.

Tentatively known as the Urban Cross and 1-Series Sport Cross, the model will measure approximately four meters long and have unique styling with a coupe-like roofline. The latter will impact the crossover's practicality as it will reportedly limit luggage space to a scant 330 liters (11.6 cubic feet).

Speaking of the interior, the cabin is expected to echo the 2-Series Active Tourer but have a more streamlined design and a new touchscreen infotainment system.

Specifications are still shrouded in secrecy but engine options should carryover from the 2-Series Active Tourer. The company could also offer a plug-in hybrid variant but nothing is official as of yet.

If everything pans out, the crossover will cost approximately €25,000 ($26,430 / £18,069) when it goes on sale in 2017.

BMW officially denies plans for sub-X1 model; hints at X2, next X3 due early 2018
BMW says it would clash with MINI
BMW has announced those rumors about a sub-X1 model are false as the company isn't working on another entry-level crossover.

Lately we've been hearing a lot of reports about a petite crossover tentatively named Urban Cross / 1-Series Sport Cross from BMW positioned below the X1 but it turns out these rumors were fake. Speaking to Motoring at the X5 M and X6 M launch this week, BMW Australia's head of product and market planning Shawn Ticehurst said it's not going to happen as such a model would clash with MINI.

He did drop a few hints about a "four-door coupe" version of the 2016 X1 and most likely the model he was referring to will be baptized “X2” and will be similar in design to its bigger brothers, the X4 and X6. This news shouldn't come as a surprise taking into account in June 2012 they registered the "X2" name while in November 2014 they also grabbed the "X2 Sport" nameplate.

As a final note, Shawn Ticehurst went on to say the next generation BMW X3 is scheduled for 2018 reveal, possibly in January in Detroit or a couple of months later in Geneva.
