3 Series (G50) [Spy shots] 2027 BMW 3 Series (G50)

The eighth generation of the BMW 3 Series range consists of the BMW G50 (sedan version) and BMW G51 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') compact executive cars. It is to be unveiled and launched in 2026, with the next-generation M3 set to launch the year after. It will feature a new, minimalist design inspired by BMW's Vision Neue Klasse concept, and will be offered with both internal combustion and purely electric powertrains, though on different platforms.
. In other words, no sunroof for me when I can't open it.

THIS.

If I can't open the sunroof, don't give me a glass roof. Give me a slicktop.

But seems like another thing OEMs are now saving coats on is federalizing just one single roof structure aka the glass roof for the US market. New A5, A6, and A6e can only be had with the glass roof in the US

Side profile. Classic 3er ever since the 1991 E36.

I hope they reconsider the Touring for the 3er.

Even though my E-class doesn't have a panoramic roof I still love the glass sunroof, as in closed position i can open the shade and let the sun come in the roof and warm the car up, or slide it open on a nice breezy sunny day to let the wind and sun in.

Yeah but this isn't an EV this is an ICE car, and the X3 similarly lost the power sunroof as well.

That's why I brought up the space saving part. The EV version likely benefits from it, and the ICE version will suffer the result.

They simply don't want a situation where people wonder why the roof can be opened on the G50 and not be opened on the NA5, which are two different cars that will be marketed as the same thing with different drivetrains.

E34 5 series Touring, 1992. When cost cutting wasn't a thing, more like the opposite. The separate opening glass window of the 5th door is taken away by the bean counters too, I might add:

I f'ing loved this when I was a kid. A folding roof for the front, and a folding roof for the back. And both can be opened at the same time as shown in this picture. Truly EPIC. I vividly remember standing on the backseat with my buddies, upper bodies out of the car and dad driving.

I love the E34. The front hood opening serves so hard 🔥 I'm even ok with the wagon not having a hofmeister kink cause it looks so good

I saw a crisp E21 316 today and became rather melancholic. I still can’t get used to the fact that, except for SAVs/SACs, the rest of the upcoming NK models won’t get proper tall kidneys like their classic NK counterparts. The new NK fascia just doesn’t feel visually BMW, since it’s missing the all important kidneys. I really don’t digest the story of the reinvented kidneys - they are simply nowhere to be found.

Remember that the classic NK from the early 60s almost had no kidneys until the intervention of Dr. Quandt, that demanded a last-minute change in order to incorporate the hallmark, tall kidneys. What you see today as the new NK styling for sedans is in fact a reinterpretation of a design on the pre-series classic NK models, prior to the addition of the kidneys.

The G50 3er will undoubtedly be a handsome automobile. But the NA0 i3 sedan is the car that I believe will absolutely fascinate me. IMHO, it somehow exudes that type 114 (1600/2) vibe. And the 1600/2 through the 2002tii were and remain the quintessential post WWII BMWs. Enduring icons.
