5 Series (G60/G61/G68) [Spy Shots] BMW G60 5 Series LCI

The BMW G60/G61/G68 is the eighth generation of the 5 Series. Revealed on May 24, 2023, it commenced production in the summer of 2023 at BMW's Dingolfing Plant, with first deliveries beginning around October 2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G60), 5-door wagon/estate (G61), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G68).
G50 is pure CLAR and the NK theme on it is only cosmetic. I don't see how that's different from the G60. G60 being a hybrid doesn't change that at all.
Everything with an ICE is compromised compared to an EV (or visa versa)

For me too, but this entirely besides the point, imho
1st.
The height for example makes a difference. G50 doesn't need a batterypack in the floor and therefore looks a lot more like a BMW sedan should be than the G60. The new i3 looks like the batterypack is better (design wise) integrated, because it is solely BEV. In other words, G50 and i3 both look "sleek". This can not be said of the G60 imo. The G60 looks a bit like a clown shoe.

2nd.
Well, the discussion started with the front change. If the "neue Klasse" design was put on the G60 LCI with the same front height and front overhang this would't make it any better proportion wise.

But I wasn't talking about proportions. I was referring to this original quote which I will bring back here:

The design of the "neue Klasse" represents more than a new design. Imo it also stands for rethinking the chassis, tech, etc.

It doesn't also stand for rethinking the chassis, otherwise the G50 CLAR 3er wouldn't exist with NK looks.
The design is just that, a design. Which they can and will slap on every car with the roundel sooner or later, no matter the underlying technology.

There's more to a "fwd-ish" design than the dash-to-axle ratio.

Upwards sloping hoodline, beltline, and roofline, as well as a longer front overhang than ever before all give me FWD-ish vibes from the design.

FWD as well as 4WD:

Hence begging the question: Would the C9 Audi A6 present "a less FWD silhouette" if it featured a more pronounced (longer) prestige clearance ?

Im glad if LCI wont get a new front, because I think G60 looks great in person. And it woudnt be nice for owners to completly change a car after 3 or 4 years.

Yes the new A6 looks more FWDy than the outgoing generation.

The C8 generation had perfect proportions.

In general, For people to appreciate the current design, the next one has to arrive.
The C9 will be appreciated more when the C10 arrives and so on..and not just one model or one brand...massive people are doing this for quite some time...
Nostalgia has nothing to do with the design language but the brain memory seems to have the upper hand on most

C8 was met with lots of love in this forum upon debut.

Very true.

The C8 A6/S6/RS6 features a knockout design. My personal favorite upper executive Audi sedan/Avant. I found it's design even more compelling than that of it's A7 Sportback sibling.

As for the C9...another episode of the standard "pleasant", yawn inducing Audi playbook. Very "safe", absolutely unoffensive, nothing that promises to be particularly memorable. Fleet managers will love it, should leasing rates be attractive.

Tastes are very different. When I saw new E class and G60 on photos, E looked better to me. I also had E class at that time. When I saw both cars in person, I loved how muscular G60 looks and E class looks weak next to it. For that reson I choosed G60. But M package is a must, without it car looks dull. Also here you can see quite a lot G60, while E class very rarely.

It *might* not be getting a new front, which I very much doubt given the current evidence.
And also, the vast majority doesn't own the car. Lease usually is 3-4 years, so perfect timing for a new face for many current drivers if they were to change for a newer model.

Anyways.......great to see you post again man.

Disagree.

C8 was met with lots of love in this forum upon debut. Can't say the same about this C9.
Are you sure? C8 was ugly compared to lets say C6 and so on..people are nostalgic, not seeing the design itself..in person A5/A6 looks ok, safe, elegant. So the C/E class and so on. C9 will look beautiful after 6 years when the new one will be on the market and so on..history proof this already for decades. People are still looking at Mercedes/Bmw/Audi designs from 20 years ago
Most "risks" to say took Bmw with the 5/7 series...7 series looks as intended, like a tank

Quite precisely.

Just take a look at the reactions to it's debut. And I still think it's one of the best looking sedans Audi ever made.

I know I say it repeatedly. But there is a certain “Saab”-ness to its profile.
