Continental GT [Spy Shots] New Generation Bentley Continental GT

You guys already have things planned, huh? Excellent! I am not yet sure about what day I'll be going. All I know is that I will be sleeping at the Marriott opposite of the messe :D

Hopefully the new Continental is half as beautiful as this 1954 Type-R Continental. What Ian Flemming proclaimed James Bond's actual car in his novels.

Spyshots: 2018 Bentley Continental GT Reveals Production Intakes, Larger Grille

With the debut of the 2018 Bentley Continental GT just around the corner, the test vehicles for the lavish machine have now shed some serious camouflage, thus allowing us to feast our eyes on a few production details.

A prototype for the first all-new Conti GT since the 2003 original was recently spotted doing its thing in Southern Europe. The front end of the tester is the most revealing part of the car.

The teardrop camo around the headlights is not slimmer, which means we can now get a better idea of how the Crewe-specific cluster will look like.

The front grille appears to have grown slightly, thus being even more imposing than that of the outgoing model.

Then we have the front apron air intakes, which are now clearly visible. We're probably dealing with the standard car here, if we may call the W12 model that and we'll remind you that each version gets its own front apron design, so these are far from the only intakes we'll get to see on the newcomer.

Moving to the posterior of the luxurious two-plus-two, we'll quickly go over the humorous side of the "how am I driving" sticker to mention the rear valance, which also seems to be here in production guise.

Since we mentioned the lavish vehicle's W12 heart, we'll remind you hat the 5,950cc mill of the current model will be retired. The new car will come with a 5,998cc powerplant, which has already showcased its potential on the Bentayga.

The automaker's 3.993cc V8 will obviously be on the list and, for the first time, so will a hybrid powertrain. The gas-electric setup will employ a V6 engine, which means we should see the Conti borrowing the 462 hp powertrain of the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

Underneath the sculpted body of the Grand Tourer, we'll find the new MSB platform of the VW Group. The generation change is thus set to deliver weight benefits, with the machine set to lose at least 100 kg (220 lbs).

Bentley will drop the 2018 Continental GT next month, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Meanwhile, here's a video of a prototype being tested on the Nurburgring.

Oh, look at me ! Fawning over one of those "generic VAG products" again... ;)

From what can be seen so far, I think that the new Continental GT will be attractive but not as breathtakingly beautiful as the concept EXP12. Although comparing a coupe with a cabriolet, the production version of the car is not quite as lithe-looking as the concept and it seems to be loosing the amazing side scalloping which is a pity imo.

I recently found out Bentley is asking $320k for the (aftermarket design disaster) Supersports. What should be the last edition of the current Continental, unless they add different color lipstick to the sills and call it another new edition.

If you're willing paying that much for what is a 14-15 year old car, then I'm not sure what to tell you.

Hopefully, the new Continental really delivers as a package because between the Flying Spur, Bentayga & Supersports, the brand has really gone downhill hill in terms of desirability in a short amount of time.

Agreed 100%. If you think about it, the Mulsanne seems to be the only genuinely desirable Bentley out there right now

Now that the camo is being shed more quickly than a Hoboken, New Jersey stripper can discard her thong (..yeah...I am a big fan of the old "The Sopranos" TV series), we are getting quite a clear image of the gen III Conti GT. And I'm absolutely loving what I see at this point.

In a segment in which a dozen thousand or so (Euro) grand are reduced to a pittance of a tuppence, I can only exclaim "Fuggedabouddit" when it comes to an S65 AMG C217 or a DB11.
Were I looking for an automobile in this lofty stratosphere of the market, I am quite sure that the gen III Conti GT would be my car of choice.

And I could give a flying f**k whether Wayne Rooney or Christiano Ronaldo have placed themselves on the order list or not.

2019 Bentley Continental GT Speed Spied With Black Grille, Exterior Trim
After the twin-turbocharged W12, the third generation of the Continental GT will welcome the more potent Speed for the 2019 model year. Spied without camouflage in Spain with British license plates, the performance-oriented derivate comes with black accents for the front grille, headlights, body-side trim, taillights, and aerodynamic diffuser.
The pre-production prototype also features Diamond Black-painted BBS RGR wheels at the rear axle, extremely different in design from the front wheels. The marker lights make this Continental GT Speed as close to the U.S. specification as it can get for the time being, and at the end of the day, it’s certain the newcomer will be available in North America.

Like previous Speed models, the heir-apparent will be more compelling than the Continental GT in bone-stock specification. With 635 PS (626 horsepower) and 900 Nm (664 pound-feet) at its disposal, the W12 could be improved to 650 ponies and even more torque with modifications to the engine control unit, intake system, and exhaust.

For reference, the previous model had 642 PS (633 horsepower) and 840 Nm (620 pound-feet) to offer from 6.0 liters displacement. As opposed to its predecessor, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Speed will lose the ZF 8HP torque-converter automatic in favor of a dual-clutch transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Sharing the Modularer Standardantriebsbaukasten vehicle architecture with the Porsche Panamera, the British land missile will feature 48-volt mild-hybrid technology for the Bentley Dynamic Ride. The system controls and adjusts electronic actuators on the anti-roll bar of both axles, improving handling and ride comfort so that the Continental feels light on its feet when it comes down to carving corners.

Last, but certainly not least, this prototype doesn’t feature the decklid spoiler and deeper side skirts you would expect from the Continental GT Speed. With time, however, the design team will add those pieces of exterior trim to the vehicle.

In regard to pricing, don’t expect the newcomer to cost more than $250,000 in the United States. For the 2017 model year, the fixed-head coupe used to retail at $240,300 while the soft-top convertible was $264,300.
