X5 [Spyshots] Next generation BMW X5 (3rd gen) 2015?

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Stronger shadow is from E70, but dont look that, becasuse in that pic light coming from left (front of the car) and in pic with F15 sun is above the car. I know that F15 is larger, bun I think not too much.

Thanks for explaining that. (y)

I looked for as similar an angle of picture of a current X5 and did a similar comparison, matching the angle of the wheels in relation to the road which is angled slightly downward on the F15. A general rule of thumb is tyre height remains the same despite the rim size used which I have matched in both pictures.

As you can see the rear window slopes less to accommodate the third row better but also the overall height has increased, basically everything has increased.

Edit: With the yellow and red lines I've adjusted from the different viewing angle as the F15 photo was taken much closer and you can see more of the roof, so I've allowed for that but you can still see how much bigger it is overall.

^I think there's parts of both your and my comparisons which aren't quite right but I think we can agree on is that its increased in size to accommodate the requirements of a properly designed third row.

^I've scaled both pictures to have the same tyre diameter which in theory should give the closest comparison but until BMW release official dimension sizes we are playing guess work on pictures which aren't exactly at the same angle.

It will increase in size but it won't have Audi-like overhang ;) It's just gigantic in your drawing...you simply took the E70 wheelarch and made the front longer to make an F15 :D

Actually that's wrong, what I did was fade both pictures so that you can see both cars, scaled the tyre sizes to the same as this will be the one constant and line each front wheel up. I don't know why the front end looks so much bigger but I agree it does look wrong so all I can say is I reckon the picture of the F15 is not quite as square on as it is in the other picture of the E70.

@Deckhook
you dont know the parametars of the lens on camera. Not only the tyres, but other element must have the same proportion. If they want more size for 3rd row, why then so longer front door?

^Do you agree that despite the rims size chosen in the option list the overall diameter of the tyre remains the same give or that a few mm, if so then if I have scaled the pictures so the diameter of the tyres match how can this approach be wrong. You are arguing with me without having all the facts like actual dimensions of the car, I simply tried to give as accurate a comparison as I could though as I said above we don't have pics of either car at the exact same angle so its guesswork at best.

I'm sure someone like Scott who have probably seen both side by side could clear everything up with regards to whether its grown much or not.

P.S.
I haven't a drawing package at home so when I get to work tomorrow I'll outline doors, wheels etc on both pics, match the wheel diameters and superimpose the two together and see how things match up and post the results.

I have been thinking about buying an F15 X5 for my wife's next car but if it grows like that then I am more likely go with a Porsche Macan.

There is a slight increase in length and height for the X5 but you cannot really make an impression with what has been done above.
You have to take into consideration of distance picture is taken to have a closer comparison, perspective is everything.

In this img, are three superimpose images of E70, and diametar of the tyres are the same (more or less):

so, very little variation in camera angle bring the difference in perception of the car. And one more time, i agree that f15 is larger than e70. But not that much like on your drawing. If your driving are correct, than I can say that f15 is in 7 series league with length.

OK, I did some hunting but finally I found a picture of an E70 taken from an angle very close to that of the F15. I matched off all the parameters I could to the best of my ability and here's the results. Hopefully Scott again can give some input as to whether I've got it right this time.

The only thing I'm not that happy with is the rear wheel arch on the E70 as the blacks blend together and it's hard to follow the line easily. Also the E70 X5 is a standard SE model which might have a different ride height to the F15 on test but looking at the rear end the F15 hasn't to same clearance angle as before.

P.S. The bizarre thing that keeps repeating is the bonnet height being significantly higher than the E70 though at least the nose overhang seems to be in line with the out going model and the extra length is mainly from the additional wheelbase and rear overhang.

Again, do you realy bellive that front door will be larger like in your drowing...And from your point of view all extra size of f15 will go in front front passengers part of the cabin (almost all).

Both the front and rear doors have increased in length, my guess is you can't add length to the rear door and not increase the front too otherwise the design would look all wrong. Other than that how happy are you with the rest?

P.S. Did a quick check on the two sets of doors and based on my drawing the increase between E70 and F15 front and rear doors it's the rear doors that have increased the most and by roughly one and a half times that of the increase at the front doors.

Your drowing is OK, but again, angel od view in that two pictures are different. Look just at size of the front. And in your drowing f15 is more than 5m long. And I think that f15 is about 4.9m (ML: 4.8m, GL:5.1m).

I reckon it will be closer to roughly 4.95m, most other 7 seater optioned SUVs are between of 5-5.1m with the one exception being the XC90 at 4.8m but I reckon it's fwd setup allows for this.
