Good post Just_me, and I actually agree here. The E63 weighs 150lbs more... the big disadvantage is the transmission. The M5 I believe has shorter ratios which is why it`s quick. AMG needs to hook up with ZF to come up with a shorter geared transmissions to take advantage of all the power thay offer with the V8s. Just imagine a ZF dual-clutch on the E63. That 0-60mph would cut another 0.3seconds off the 0-60mph time at the least.

I aint brushing anything , I just observed that E63 isnt much quicker despite being more powerful and with added AWD. The guys in the video noticed the same thing. My guess the reason for the M5 to accelerate so fast is thanks to the superior gearbox. So instead of attacking me, just admit the difference should be greater.

I don't agree that the differences should have been greater, AWD benefits your traction off the line but if you test cars on a track then chances are it will offer superior traction than you will get on the road, what this will do is benefit two wheel drive much more than all wheel drive, just look at the range of 0-60mph/0-100km/h times for the M5 they all aren't within a couple of tenths and 3.7s is among the best achieved so this car was getting super traction off the line. Now look at the 1/4mile figures for both yeah the Merc gets there first but at a slightly lower trap speed so the M5 is catching up and will probably overtake it by the 150mph mark.

My guess is in the real world the E63S would pull out a sizable advantage from a standing start but this advantage will neutralize very quickly after which point the M5 will slowly but steadily haul it back in.

And guys dont forget that I had my complaints toward the new M5 since it was first presented. In terms of driving the previous M5 is superior compare to the new one. And yes the new E63 is big step compare to previous E63. BMW went back and MB forward. I'm nervously waiting to see the upcoming M4 being tested.

I've driven the old E60 M5 several times and I never felt wow this is incredible not like I did with the older E39, in my opinion it was let down by a gearbox which should never have been put in a big saloon as it was too rough. Honestly I reckon it's engine and gearbox compromised what potentially could have been a great super saloon as these two items were better suited to a sportier application.

As my cousin has the E60 M5 I will do a back to back comparison between them when our M5 comes but I have no doubt the new M5 is a superior allrounder as it has a engine and gearbox better suited to the role.

I agree Artist... I`m all for the inhouse development to. AMG and ZF should work as a team on this project since MB has got to have it their way.

You do know that these to whom you rank as shit motoring journalists are not the only ones who said they like the E63 over the M5..

Even respected ones said that the M5 lacks steering feel, and so on, while the AMG is great..

So this aint some isolated report right here.

I find it funny how you (bmw guys) brush this under the rug like meh..crap journalists, its not so much quicker since the M5 is rwd and so on and so forth.

Truth of the matter is that the E63 is a couple of years older than the M5, and still it is the faster, it is the one that is more sporting and connected to drive, all in all it can be said that the once so overwhelming gap the M5 had to the competition is no more, in fact it does not even exist any longer.

Don't bother its the same thing over and over. When a BMW gets beat it is cry me river time and/or oh it isn't that much of a big deal, or I don't like these type of cars. Same ole bullshit it has always been. Now we're expecting 2 cars that basically make 600hp to have vastly different performance based on one of them having AWD. It's all hater nonsense. Ignore it, like dogs barking in the distance.
