M2 BMW M2 [official thread]

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M
For me the joint kidney grille on the M2is not love at first sight. On the newer BMWs such as The 8. It's beautifully integrated but on the M2 it kind of appears as an afterthought. Love Hockenheim Silver however.

Beijing is not that far away.
SAME STREET. DIFFERENT GAME.
The all new BMW M2 Competition Coupé.

A sports car that changes every road. The BMW M2 Competition Coupé overwhelms with an outstanding combination of performance, agility and precision. The aggressive air inlets in the front apron signal the concentrated power of the new 302kW Bi-turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine. The BMW M2 Competition Coupé is a permanent guarantee of high performance and the aspiration to set new records. A genuine M automobile, built for winners.

ONE GLANCE. DOUBLE THRILL.
Exciting. Sporty. Rebellious. The BMW M2 Competition Coupé functions like pure adrenalin with every detail. Enlarged air inlets and the full length kidney grill with M2 badge dominate the front. From the impressive bonnet, the characteristic coupé silhouette extends through to the muscularly sculpted rear. Distinctive 19” M light alloy wheels provide dynamic tension, while M gills and M exterior mirrors in Black high-gloss underline the motor racing character. In the rear view, the M diffuser and the angle exhaust tailpipes signal sporting ambitions in top form.

TWO TURBOS. ONE GOAL.
The BMW M2 Competition Coupé doesn’t need a finish line to be first. With its tremendous performance potential and outstanding agility, it leaves the competition far behind. The two weight-optimised turbochargers ensure that the high performance power unit exhibits an extremely direct response and unbridled high-revving ability – perfect for fast sprints and sporty cornering. The sound of the M sport exhaust system can be adapted to the specific driving mode at the touch of a button – powerful and setting the tone at every moment. Developed and tested on the racing circuit, the cooling system ensures the optimum operating temperature while the M specific suspension guarantees precise handling. A vehicle for everyone who wants to dictate the race from the front of the pack.

BEST MATCH.
EVEN BETTER.

A cockpit that could have been constructed for the racetrack: systematically driver-oriented, the M specific instrument display appears with red dials, centrally positioned oil gauge and M2 Competition lettering. The M leather steering wheel is also optimised for peak performance. Start-up is ignited by a red start/stop button and individual driving profiles can be configured via the M1/M2 buttons while the shift paddles interacting with the M double-clutch transmission supplied as standard allow gear changes in a matter of seconds. M Sport seats round off the overall set-up. Designed in black Dakota leather with illuminated M2 logo, they not only offer a powerful look but also perfect support.

Well well well, looks like M division listened to the major complaints from the gen 1 M2 and made the necessary changes. Looks like a winner to me! Keep M coming.

Re-profiled valence, angled exhaust ports really nothing too drastic.

Now I can reveal some information from my M-night.

The engine which will be found in the X3M and X4M is the S58 variant from the all-new B58 Six Cylinder.
Which I have seen X3M in finished form. The front is similar to the F-Pace SVR which looks M- don't you think?

They are Looking at Competition Packets for the X3M and X4M plus the Next Generation X5M and X6M.

The X3M and X4M will be launched later this year and they expect both to surpass the volume of the X5M and X6M.

Apparently we are not at the ceiling for the M2 and M4 and that options are being considered.
The engine can apparently obtain a higher output, but it's a question of not overstepping the market too much.

Hockenheim Silver will be offered on other M models. With another introduction soon to offer it.

M really want to do a Gran Coupe version of the next M4 model.

They reckon there will be a higher customer turnaround swapping our M5's for the upcoming Competition Model. The timeframe is shorter.

I love the look of the X2 MPerformance.

The hinted M2 CSL is nowhere near to be introduced. Certainly no decision and it's looking like time may run out.

2019 BMW M2 Competition Official Photos And Details Leaked, Boasts 410 PS Engine

An improvement of the M2 LCI, the M2 Competition is out of the box ahead of its planned reveal on April 25th at the Auto China 2018 in Beijing. The most powerful M2 ever swaps the N55 engine for the S55, with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six developing 410 PS (404 horsepower) and 550 Nm (406 pound-feet).

The engine from the M3 and M4, albeit detuned, is just the start of the good news list. Capable of revving up to 7,600 revolutions per minute, the S55 in this application can thrust the two-door coupe to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds if specified with the dual-clutch transmission. There’s no word of the six-speed manual in the leaked information and official photos from BMW Blog Slovenia.

In addition to the overhaul in performance, the M2 Competition differs from the M2 LCI on a visual level as well. The more aggressive front fascia is complemented by 19-inch wheels, black-painted side mirror caps, rear aerodynamic diffuser, and the quad-pipe active exhaust system that can be made louder at the touch of a button.

An improved suspension setup and more focused steering are on the menu too, as are M1 and M2 buttons on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. The start/stop engine button is painted red to emphasize the sporting nature of the M2 Competition, while both front seats feature the illuminated M2 logo in the backrest.

Compared to the M2 LCI, the M2 Competition takes things up a notch from the driver’s point of view. But on the other hand, there’s still a lot of potential left untapped. There’s still hope for the M2 CS after the M2 Competition, though the CSL and GTS nameplates have more to offer from the standpoint of get-up-and-go.

Watch this space as we’ll get more information on the M2 Competition before the grand reveal in Beijing at the end of the month.

More or less the discussion.

The M2 Competition was borne when sales of the regular model far exceeded expected predictions. And that introducing special editions are now easier to justify, Just ask Porsche.

There are New markets that are always opening for those special cars that have a true heritage to motorsport and M that will increase for them too.

What they disclosed was that M2 is tracking at 40-50% above initial expectation in terms of sales, and there is further growth and demand for progressive Performance cars like the M2 Competition,M3 CS,M4 GTS and CS and beyond.

What they announced that night refers to they see more opportunity for special models now than they did in the past. Which is great news for enthusiasts but only if market conditions and customer demand allows.

The M3 has reached its end with the CS. But they still see potential with the current M4 but they know there are customers that would especially demand more from the M2 but the means have to be justified.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
