7 Series [Official] 2019 BMW 7 series LCI

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.
The LCI 7er went on sale in China since May,July was its 3rd month in the market.with the launch of X7 and LCI 7er,Bmw tried to change the old marketing strategy that of massive discounts of its high end models for volumes in Chinese market. You know, the market price of a fully loaded before LCI M760Li was almost identical to a Lexus LX570 in Chinese market,t...
They don't like the price of the M760, but do they pay tens of thousands more for lots of rebadged Mercedes "Maybachs"?, and from now on if the 7 series are sold more will it be because they throw them with huge discounts? Sorry, that will be your analysis but I don't think that is what is happening, we will see the next few months as the topic evolves.

There is a moderate discounts(5%-10%) for S Class in Chinese market at present, but Chinese customers still have to pay hefty marks up to local dealers if they want to buy some top end Maybach S Class models.I also think it's ridiculous when the new W223 is already on the horizon.
Bmw only offers minor discounts(5%)when the LCI 7er went on sales months ago, that's far less than the at least 25% discounts rate Bmw dealers offered for the before LCI 7er.in other words,The LCI 7er is almost 20% more expensive than the before LCI one,it's not surprise to see the sales of LCI 7er went downhill in China at the momemt.

That Maybach number is just ridiculous. Talk about failing and learning from that and then trying again and hitting pay dirt. Wow. Hopefully the next one will be a more bespoke version of the W223.

It is I was shocked to see those number more reason to make that concept SUV the China clients will love it.

Offering bigger discounts on old models to clean the stock when nobody wants them because it is already known that the new model will arrive is a standard worldwide practice of practically all the manufacturers since always, then everything goes on its normal course and the results are seen in few moths.

If you go back in this thread, he's been mentioning that the 7-series had been carrying heavy discounts in China for quite some time, not just right before the LCI came.

@KokkenTor

Again, you hit "disagree" about my statement that the new iDrive OS is a major step backwards yet for the SECOND time I'm asking you, what experience do you have with the new iDrive?

I have a new G05 X5. I've used the new iDrive for around 2,000km, in various traffic situations, on various roads, general day-to-day use. In many, many areas it offers less flexibility than previous iterations of iDrive. Functions I still use on the F30 3 Series are no longer there on the X5. The LIVE COCKPIT is not clear at all. Certainly not compared to my F30.

Again, this is ACTUAL use of the new iDrive on a car I OWN. I've not looked at photos on the internet or watched videos on YouTube.

So, what is your experience of the new iDrive that means you are confident I am wrong?

That exterior color is terrible. Interior is a sea of blandness in that color. The 7 really pops in darker colors or either of two whites on offer. Interior should def be a darker color.

would love to see your X5. Also why didn’t you look at the GLE? The infotainment would address some of the the issues you had... no?

Because the X5 was more appealing to me, and ultimately I'm a fan of BMWs. The new iDrive and LIVE COCKPIT were initially a major attraction. It's only when you start living with them day-to-day do you realise what an absolute mess BMW have made of them.

I've posted several photos of my X5 already.

Just curious. Since you test drive great cars usually, which is the best infotainment system in the market right now?

BMWs still equipped with the old iDrive and the Multifunction Instrument Display, like my F30 3 Series.

Super clear and everything is just where you expect it to be. I'm speaking from someone who uses both BMW systems day in, day out. People may look at the LIVE COCKPIT and think it looks cool and slick, but it's a pain to use with numerous poorly executed features, and the instrument display is completely cluttered. It's also barely configurable at all, so you have to use it as they've designed it. The thing that really annoys me though is the speedo is lost in a sea of colours and distractions. It angers me even thinking about it.

It's hard to choose between the Audi Virtual Cockpit and the Mercedes cockpit. The Mercedes is the most configurable, almost too much. The Audi Virtual Cockpit is clear but the MMI has a few quirks that annoy me.

Not counting the G class, the X5 is the best looking SUV 'regular' SUV on the market bar none, in my view. I absolutely love it. Maybe even more so than the E70 when it first came out, and that's saying a lot.

As for the Live Cockpit....yeah, I have some experience with it from the new G20, but not much like you. We look at these things a little differently though, and either way, it's all software so easy to change the UI.

That fantastic F30 instrument cluster is never to be repeated. An exercise in clarity, legibility and being instantaneously informative without distracting. I still get happy every time I clap eyes on it - day or night.
As a young man, I yearned for that iconic "BMW look and feel" and years later the F30 delivered on that yearning.

They were dotted about the X5 (G05) thread, so I've just created a dedicated thread in the "owner galleries" section.

Well, if they're planning on changing it they should do it ASAP. As it stands I have to live with the stupid way it works. Now, none of the issues I have with the LIVE COCKPIT display are life changing on their own, but I find there are lots of little things that I have to "workaround". BMW are better than that. It gives me the impression it hasn't been tested or thought through.

I've just been out in the X5 today. I found another issue which is just amateurish, and I'll explain it now.

When you drive with the "Driving Mode" displayed in the LIVE COCKPIT (ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT), the instrument cluster changes depending on the mode selected. Below is the ECO PRO mode displayed (which has a blue theme), and the fuel consumption is shown in the display (av. 29.1 mpg).

However, if you decide to turn off the "Driving Mode" display so that when you toggle between ECO PRO, COMFORT and SPORT the display just stays the same (the default display is that which is shown in COMFORT), there is an issue which is simply poorly thought through and bad design, something which BMW usually excels at.

The display below is the car in COMFORT mode, and with the fuel economy shown (29.3mpg)

However, if I switch it to ECO PRO the ability to show the average fuel economy disappears! Why?!! I can see how far I've travelled since it was reset...

Here it shows I've travelled 22.6km since I last refueled.

I can even see what G-Force I'm pulling!

But the one thing I want to display in the instrument cluster is the fuel economy, and I can't see that! Yet you can see it as long as you keep the driving mode in COMFORT and not ECO PRO. It's clearly something which has been overlooked.

Yip, BMW stuffed this one up. They ignored user interface principles for a “look” they thought was basically, “cool”. Thank god for a very good head-up display. Hopefully the LCI, or over-the-air update, will correct this instrument cluster BUNGLE.

As brilliant as the G05 is, it’s not perfect. Those who polish the turds, are quintessential fanboys. Let’s just be honest when required please. This instrument cluster is second only to the upcoming rat-face grille..

I was reading today a review of the new 1er interior. The mag I was reading said the new iDrive was easier to use than the MBUX in the A-Class, but the level of personalisation was terrible, and the design messy and weird. They were comparing it to the previous version of the iDrive, and put the new system behind Audi's and MB's.

On a different note, they said the quality of the F40 cabin was the best of the segment. Which is becoming a trend with BMW's latest offerings. X5 being no exception.

Not sure about the 7er, though.
