As someone who has and maintains a car with a hood hinged on the bumper side, rather than the windscreen side, I have to tell you that things that open in reverse of the common way are stupid, not special.

The BMW E30 and the E34 had the hinges in the front part and closing the hood was a kind of a special experience.

Yes, the same thing happened with the hood of my father's E21, dangerous for the fingers !, but you can not argue that these "stupidities" are sometimes if not especial, very cool

So did the E24... I don't recall closing it being a special experience, but I do recall opening it was often an expensive one!

Am I a Philistine for asking if there will be an M8 convertible, with its compromised stiffness and handling...or a moron for imagining that BMW would pass up on the revenue from such an obvious product?

hmmmm, I vacillate between liking the coupe more or drop-top more, but one thing I don't like so much on the cabrio....without the butresses on the coupe, the lovely haunches over the rear wheels seen on the coupe are not as emphasized on the cabrio. That is one of my favorite design elements on the 8er.
