My take is that the "golden age" of unconditionally eye-pleasing German sedoupes now, with the possible exception of the Porsche Taycan, lies behind us. IMHO, neither the 8er/M8 GC or series II Audi A/S/RS7 live up to their predecessors in terms of exterior design. The M-B C257 CLS is attractive, but couldn't revive the stunning, exciting aura of the original C219. And to me, the X290 AMG GT 4 doors are not particularly good looking automobiles. The Audi eTron GT, despite its' absolutely striking silhouette, simply looks far "too busy" (less could have been so much more).
Accompanying the Taycan, I'm hoping that both Polestar ( with its' upcoming "5") and Lotus (with its' upcoming Type 133) will revive the segment for the design-affine. Maybe AMG will introduce something spectacular with an AMG.EA-based 4 door GT as well. I have no clue what BMW may have in store.
