The market will tolerate a C53 being the halo car of the range as long as it's not a 4 cylinder. The CLE53 is proof enough of that.

If they then don't want to burn money redoing the regulatory testing and homologation for a V8 "63" that's sad, but fine. Rather that than what they did with the P3 hybrid.

I hope AMG will go all in with modifying the inline-6 engine. They really need to over-deliver with the performance of this engine to salvage the halo of the C63 moniker. Forget making it a hybrid, just make it pure ICE, and if the customers still don't want it, they can go elsewhere in the meantime or wait for the next C63.

The problem is, if customers *do* want it, they risk fines for exceeding their CO2 fleet average.

Them having a 1:1 EV for ICE power train options for every model should hopefully help with that.

But given the state of the global economy I think new car sales won't be high in general.

What have you heard?
Curious to hear of AMG have done any more tuning to the M256. I'm almost certain it can do better than 449hp/560Nm.

All I know is that the successor of the current C-Class AMGs will have the M256.

My guess the C53 will have the same powertrain as the E53 so we could be looking at total of 585PS/612PS with performance pack. If the cars weight is about 2100kg then possibly close to the current C63 in performance. The difference in delivery as the C53 could be a full plug in hybrid with bigger 20kwhr battery plus 100km EV range plus 585PS accessible all time and not just boost to 680PS for 10sec or 571PS after that in the C63.

I don't think so, either. There will probably be a six-cylinder, but without a battery. The technology is only for the E53 AMG.
