The E is the most robust feeling MB sedan right now.
Aren't you forgetting the S class?

When I test-drove the E, I told you a changed the ambient lighting to blue for your preference since you complained about the pink. I believe you can drop me a return with my request on a quick sum-up of the E vs the S interior quality.
The E is up there with the 5-Series. It is not playing games.

From my experiences, the E-Class feels better than the S, especially the lower door storage compartments. The E feels like its made from a better grade material. If you don`t believe me please go to your local MB dealer and check them out. I know you are not an MB fan.
Hopefully every Mercedes from here on gets a renewed focus on interior quality. The test will be this new CLA. It has improved with the latest generation, but it needs to improve a lot further.

Is that like official or what we think? The W214 brings back a level of interior solidity akin to the W212 and is supposed to be their 'turn around' car.

It was mentioned by someone from MB at the time of the E-class launch.
The W212 is built rock solid

Will do that next time I am over there, hopefully within a month. It's right next to BMW
At the very least, I think the S looks a lot better in pics.
Not doubting that. But truth to be told, the 5er has seen better days too....
Also these companies like JDP and Consumer Reports seem to just group all engines and trims together as 1 model. A 640i with N55 and a 650i with a N63 are going to be totally different experiences in terms of reliability, but these useless orgs only give 1 rating for all the engines. If all those surveys are for the first 90 days they’re meaningless. The JDP Dependability study, the one that looks at cars 3 years old in the hands of their original owner, is the survey they counts.

A few points:Bad
-Rear seat experience isn't just.....adequate. Packing is poor and in the rear is feels noticeably smaller and less roomy than in the GLE and GLB which are both shorter cars. It feels a bit poor value for money.
-Did Ryanair or Hertz design the back seat? It's rather low maintenance. There are no amenities in the rear. No 3rd zone climate control or storage under neat the vents. The centre arm rear doesn't have cup holders or storage. Instead, there are slots for smartphone. I am doubtful whether some phones with chunky cases even fit.
-Panoramic glass panels don't have hard retractable covers instead its a retractable voile or mesh like material. I would be concerned about noise intrusion during rain fall or hail.
-Car prices have gone up but it's hard not to whinge. Choose a 6 cylinder option and you are neck and neck with a 3 year old w223 with 6-10k miles. Not a like for like comparison but it just feels like the E is missing a few surprises or nice to have. Eitherway it's a positive that airmatic, rear wheel steering and the classic grille are avaible to the E200. Sclass looks without S class running costs.
Thanks. Those were mainly nitpicks. I still want the car though.A few points:
-The GLE has a longer wheelbase. You may not know this, but the GLE is actually a long wheelbase model which is why it has the V167 chassis designation. They killed the regular wheelbase model in development so it's a bit unusual in that case. Also, most SUVs are shorter than their sedan counterparts.
-The amenities in the rear seat are totally dependent on your trim level obviously. Rear climate control is available. The rear arm rest does have cupholders, you just didn't know how to use the compartment. If you press hard a second time it extends out further revealing the cupholders. I think it's a stupid design but that's besides the point. You also didn't mention the storage pockets in the rear doors, which is larger than in most cars in this class.
-They've had the mesh for the pano roof shade for generations now. Never heard a complaint about that.
