Perfect color combo for a Boxster.

As so often happening with other brands so it's happening here with Porsche because IMO the biggest rival to the 991 sales doesn't come from another brand but from in-house.

Some Porsche Boxsters will be built by VW - report

Taking over for Valmet

Porsche used to rely on Valmet for overflow production, but output of its sports cars ended at the Finnish plant last year.

VIENNA – Volkswagen’s Osnabrueck, Germany, car plant will begin volume production of the Porsche Boxster sports car this fall.

Volkswagen took over the factory from bankrupt assembler Wilhelm Karmann in 2009 and launched production of the new VW Golf Cabrio there in March 2011.

Porsche plans to use the Osnabrueck facility to handle overflow production from its main plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany. Pilot production will begin this summer.

While the Boxster’s official Job One is confirmed for this fall, exact timing of the project and expected volumes remain unclear.

Total capacity of the Osnabrueck factory, which is limited by the paint shop, is about 100,000 vehicles a year.

Finnish contract-assembler Valmet Automotive used to be Porsche’s partner for overflow production, but output of Porsche cars was phased out there last year.

Valmet manufactured 227,890 Porsche Boxster and Cayman sports cars at its plant in Uusikaupunki, Finland, between 1997 and 2011

I personally don't think this is excessive box ticking.

It's not excessive. It just about the standard basket value of options ticked by a Porsche buyer.

I love the reviews so far but a part of me thinks the car would be in near Carrera GT level with sports tires and a 450hp engine.

Haven't driven one only talked to my friend who is sales manager at the dealers and he says the new Boxster and Cayman are on another level, the balance and poise they have is unreal. Hopefully I'll get an invite over to Silverstone soon to drive one for myself.
