Taycan [Official] Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is a battery electric luxury sports sedan and shooting brake car produced by Porsche.
Not too long ago, I drove a Taycan GTS around Kyalami and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the experience.
Impressive mid-corner grip, great traction upon corner exit allied to a substantial slug of thrust. After the GT3 RS (capt. obvs) my favourite experience on the day.

I can only imagine how impressive a Taycan Turbo GT might be.

Ok, you made me jealous once more with casually mentioning driving around on one of the greatest tracks ever. And with a GT3 RS? You have to be kidding me, that will very likely forever be a dream for me.

And how quickly it will deplete your pockets in tyres that cost £4000 a set after a few laps.

Knowing it's capable is enough for most people I suppose. These cars will never see a track, but will handle fantastic with the occasional spirited drive.

But to be 3 secs a lap faster than a cup 2 R around a 2 min track was always never gonna come cheap.
If you think that I’m suggesting that a Taycan is a good track car then you’re even more detached from reality than I thought.
There’s a vast difference between running a track car vs occasionally taking a stock production car around a track. Even the wealthiest of the fast car marque’s VIP customers don’t run their special allocation cars on track weekend in, weekend out.

Ok, so here’s the reality check, it was only:
- “guided laps” behind a Porsche instructor from Germany - still faster than anything you’d do on public roads but safe as houses
- 991.2 GT3 RS
- 3 laps
But what a privilege nonetheless - Porsche SA are really good to their customers

That’s exactly the point. No one’s buying a Taycan to mix it up with the boys on the weekend. Or, for that matter a GT4 RS or GT3 RS.

Phew...For a moment there I thought you were going to make the mistake I did and mention "sports car" and "Taycan" in the same post. 🙈

Great to read your opinions on the Taycan GTS. It the best car I've ever owned. I'm going to make the most of my last 5 weeks with it before I take delivery of my Macan Turbo.

The point im making is how porsche gas lights everyone when releasing a new model about how its gained x amount of lap time through optimisation when reality is that its 90% tyre tech gains

I had someone tell us their cayenne gt turbo handled like a sports car. Me and my mates had a good old laugh.

Taycan’s are getting incredibly cheap on the second hand market here - to the point I’d considering buying one. Loaded $140k+ MSRP 20-22 Taycan’s can be had in the $40-50k range all-day long for clean examples with low mileage.

Any advice from owners to look out for? I know the early ones were troublesome.

This 4S is loaded. What happened to Porsche quality though? The dashboard leather is already shrinking at 13k miles. That is shameful.

I have a Taycan Turbo and it's an amazing car to drive, but its first Porsche EV and the software is buggy.

1. Check the underbody protection plate of the battery, make sure there's no scratches, dents, etc, a small 4mm dent can void the battery warranty.
2. Check the battery SoH, you can read it yourself with OBD or ask Porsche to do it, at that mileage it should be around 90%.
3. Check the panoramic roof for stone chips, it's very expensive to replace.
4. Look for uneven tire wear, wheels alignment is expensive around 2k.
5. Last but not least don't buy one without extended warranty.

I often question whether the Porsche Taycan will EVER evolve into an appreciating asset. Or is it doomed to become little more than a rapidly depreciating "leased appliance" that, other than the recycling factor, is disposable. We have a way to go before a plateau for BEVs is reached in which techologies can no longer be significantly improved. OTA updates devoid of new hardware can only go so far. Certainly, the Taycan is an internationally highly acclaimed automobile chock full of delightful attributes. However, after varying periods of time, "old" Porsches begin to mature like fine wines. They become highly desired classics. After quite a long wait, we are now beginning to see this with models such as the often previously scoffed 914/916, 924/944/968 and 928. Sure, 970 series Panameras and series I Cayennes remain little more than relatively low priced "used cars" But that could eventually change. However, as far as the Taycan goes, I'm not sure at all.

Interesting, Matt Farah from Road & Track has bought a used Taycan CT...:

"I am really looking forward to using this car for the next few years and seeing how it holds up. Is the Taycan the Porsche of EVs, the EV of Porsches, or both? How much use will I get from the unlimited-mileage warranty? And, the big question, how much will the thing be worth when I'm done with it?"
