X3 M / X4 M [Official] The BMW X3 M (F97) and the BMW X4 M (F98)

In 2019, BMW introduced the X4 M and X4 M Competition (F98), being the first time an X4 had a M version. The X4 M is fitted with a 3.0 L S58 straight-six that produced 473 horsepower with the Competition models producing 503 horsepower. Full M models can be fitted with full M specific M Performance Parts. These include a splitter, spoiler, sport steering wheel, carbon fibre vents and kidney grilles.
Hi Klier,
of course 600 Nm sounds fine for daily use, but the same engine will have 50 Nm more in the upcomings M3/M4. Why did BMW decided to reduce it? that would be interesting to know if it a technical decision, or a marketing one.

Hi my friend,

BMW hasn't released any data about the upcoming M3/4 yet.

BMW Switzerland too

So yes, 4WD and 4WD Sport only. A RWD mode in MxDrive would be fun but somewhat pointless in an SUV/SAV

If I were BMW I'd make the technicians or engineers that build these engines, sign their names. Its a good marketing strategy.

"First ever hand built twin turbo BMW engine"

Really disappointed by the weight of this car at 4620lbs its heavier than all its competitors and the Jag and AMG have V8s .BMWs are usually lighter than the competition, would explain why, at least on paper, its slower than those cars .
Blame greater cooling requirements for turbos that will run very hot. This is why some sports car manufacturer haven't bothered "downsizing" engines.

I'm no engine expert, but that simply cant be right. If that was the case we would have seen it already in other turbo charged M cars which are all lighter than the manufactures that didn't downgrade. So that is just false. I'm even willing to bet that the S58 is lighter than those engines you allude to. Its something else and not cooling requirements.

And you take words of car journalists as a facts? C'mon...

You mean that they are as bad as those who write about finance and politics???? ;):D

There seems to be more emphasis on the Competition model rather than the standard M model. Target your higher margin.
The Carbon Pack gives nice accent to the car, but 30 HP more for only 0,1s quicker time, is it really worth it? And based on the blonde woman who explained the 2 cars in the BMW video, the competition models won't have the traffic-jam assistant. So finally you end up taking the regular X3M or X4M for more driver assistance and more comfort and you add the nice rims of the competition one, the M sport seat, the M sport exhaust system, the carbon package, the M Driver Package and you end with the same value as if you ordered directly the competition one.

Hi Klier,

As the article from Carmagazine was taken by other medias, I thought, and I believed it was true. Add to this that he was right with the HP value, i thought that he was pretty accurate in his info.

Thank you very much Scott27 ;), I will contact my dealer, but he is in holidays this week. :shifty:

I take it the two modes of M xDrive are standard 40/60 f/r 4WD and 4WD Sport?

442 lb ft is plenty if you ask me. Even with the weight these cars carry.

Please do tell more...

Will find out when we can talk about it. We saw the M8 also and soon, one more cool model :)

What a pair of beauties must be said, they have all the personality of the pure M's as it could not be otherwise.
The two colors chosen to contrast are a success, the donington gray in the X3 is better than in any other BMW I have seen and that red X4 calls for war!

BMW M is at last bringing excellent competition to the Macan turbo and AR Stelvio. Based on appearance and numbers I'd take the BMW over either!

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
