Hi Klier,
of course 600 Nm sounds fine for daily use, but the same engine will have 50 Nm more in the upcomings M3/M4. Why did BMW decided to reduce it? that would be interesting to know if it a technical decision, or a marketing one.
BMW Switzerland too

The M xDrive system has a rear-wheel bias and offers BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M owners two AWD driving modes.
How come it produces "only" 600 Nm?

X4M isn't pretty. I rather see a X2M.
If I were BMW I'd make the technicians or engineers that build these engines, sign their names. Its a good marketing strategy.Totally new engine.
Blame greater cooling requirements for turbos that will run very hot. This is why some sports car manufacturer haven't bothered "downsizing" engines.Really disappointed by the weight of this car at 4620lbs its heavier than all its competitors and the Jag and AMG have V8s .BMWs are usually lighter than the competition, would explain why, at least on paper, its slower than those cars .
I'm no engine expert, but that simply cant be right. If that was the case we would have seen it already in other turbo charged M cars which are all lighter than the manufactures that didn't downgrade. So that is just false. I'm even willing to bet that the S58 is lighter than those engines you allude to. Its something else and not cooling requirements.Blame greater cooling requirements for turbos that will run very hot. This is why some sports car manufacturer haven't bothered "downsizing" engines.
And you take words of car journalists as a facts? C'mon...
The Carbon Pack gives nice accent to the car, but 30 HP more for only 0,1s quicker time, is it really worth it? And based on the blonde woman who explained the 2 cars in the BMW video, the competition models won't have the traffic-jam assistant. So finally you end up taking the regular X3M or X4M for more driver assistance and more comfort and you add the nice rims of the competition one, the M sport seat, the M sport exhaust system, the carbon package, the M Driver Package and you end with the same value as if you ordered directly the competition one. There seems to be more emphasis on the Competition model rather than the standard M model. Target your higher margin.
Hi my friend,
BMW hasn't released any data about the upcoming M3/4 yet.
Thank you very much Scott27Don't forget to register your interest for your closed room viewing.
I take it the two modes of M xDrive are standard 40/60 f/r 4WD and 4WD Sport?
442 lb ft is plenty if you ask me. Even with the weight these cars carry.
Please do tell more...
We saw the M8 also and soon, one more cool model
