Supra [Official] Toyota Supra (J29/DB)

The Toyota Supra is a sports car and grand tourer manufactured and developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation beginning in 1978. The name "supra" is a definition from the Latin prefix, meaning "above", "to surpass" or "go beyond". The 5th generation of the Supra is assembled alongside the G29 BMW Z4 in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr.
Turbo for the GT86 is given and I am very excited about the model. It will probably be more quintessentially Toyota inside and out, and will be priced significantly better than the Supra.

It is not given. It will be NA 2.4.

Why so defeatist forecasts regarding the Supra?
I have not seen anything that indicates that ...
The only thing I have read and seen about it is that sales were very good (pre-pandemic), and that in general the car exceeded expectations and is great as a whole.
It lacks a 500 horsepower engine for some maybe

On merit the Supra is a great car. The problem is the pricing. Sure, the first model year has performed well because of hype, fans etc. Long term, a barrier to success will be price. It's very pricey.

It's expensive and it's only now during the pandemic that Toyota offer a small discount on it. The hallmark of the car is the suspension, it's very well setup and doesn't feel too stiff or slack on any road. It's setup just right. However if you don't highly value that or the design, you can enjoy the same drivetrain in a cheaper BMW.

There is so much supply of the M340i and Z4 M40i, both new or nearly new, for considerably less than a Supra. Even used 840i are approaching Supra prices. BMW offer generous discounts and it will be interesting to see how the new M240i due next year will compare against the Toyota.

Depending on your car history and what your priorities are, the 718 GTS, A45 AMG, Corvette C8 and new M4 will likely offer more excitement and have less dated steering wheel and switchgear.

Currently the Supra reminds me of the Vantage: A car with a ubiquitous drivetrain but with a substantial premium for the badge and design. Hopefully MY2022 Supra will include an edgier S55/S58 powered variant of the Supra.

I wonder whether the gearbox is as satisfying to use as one in a Civic Type R or 911.

The Supra might be the last car with a B58 engine and a manual gearbox. BMW‘s 40i models used to have manual gearboxes. However the gearbox was not great. It took thousands of miles to loosen up and feel “right”. Even then it wasn’t a celebrated gearbox.
