3 Series [Spyshots] BMW 3 Series Facelift

The BMW 3 series is a line of compact executive cars manufactured by the German automaker BMW since May 1975. BMW's best selling model, it is the successor to the 02 series. Since 2013, the coupé and convertible models have been marketed as the 4 Series. The M version of the 3 series, the M3, debuted with the E30 M3 in 1986.
Perfect timing for the 40th Anniversary of the BMW 3er.
That is why there is a major event in Munich this week.

This facelift comes at a perfect time for BMW to counter the immense challenge of the new C-Class and Jaguar XE.

Can't wait to see the specs and engines as well as hopefully we will see a lot of mods to the interior to improve the quality

There will barely be any changes to the interior. One thing that will change will be the HVAC display will be white during the day and orange at night, just like the 1 Series LCI.

What would you change with the LCI, @martinbo ?

As with so many "premium" German cars - the F30 suffers from too many interior trim components. It's a by-product of offering different trim-levels and interior finishings. As a result there are simply too many inserts, beadings and control panels in the hang-down consol. The fit of these components is less than satisfactory - whilst my F30 doesn't rattle per se, I still experience that typically German "snap, crackle & pop effect". So first order of business: sort out the trim join and fit issues.

Next, the transmission tunnel consol plastics are pretty crap - almost cardboard-like in their feel. I would spend less on piano black and chrome embellishments and more on turning this area into soft-touch plastics (PU) covered surfaces. The gear selector has a nice feel in the vertical (PRD) plane but it feels very plasticky when you slap it over into DS - something I do regularly when I need a lower gear. I would improve the tactile feel of the gear selector. The rest of the dashboard generally has a pleasing solidity to it and the plastics are robust quality items. The faux wood inserts on my Luxury Line are actually very nice and lend an air of smartness to an otherwise plain facia.

No, I believe it's the actual launch. Which means we finally get the info on the new engines, I frankly don't care much about the changes to the visuals.

I have to admit, I am a bit underwhelmed by the 340i; I would have thought that it would get closer to 370hp which would be the new motor in the M2, but I suppose it gets dangerously close to the M3/4. That said, notwithstanding the visual drama and some fancy innards, the M3/4 have no perceived advantage to a 335/340, which when tuned and modified could achieve better results than the M cars for less money

Yes, in a few hours. The figures published already on the 340i are accurate, so no surprises.

Oh c'mon already. I wanna know what's the story with the 330d...
