Yea, no doubt the E facelift is way more drastic than this, like a plastic surgery vs new eye make up for the 5.
But that also sucks for the current E owners who will be now stuck with a car that will look more aged and probably take a bigger depreciation hit. You could already get a new E for almost 10 grand off (they offerred my sis in law 8k off with out any negotiation 2 months back), it is going to be even bigger now.
Worldwide both 5series and Audi A6 are selling better than E-class. Thats why the changes for 5-series are small. It didn't 'need' a dramatic change. The E class was outselling the 5. I like how it's more aggressive and in your face. I like how everything flows. Don't get me wrong, the 5's front end is nice, but this new more in your face and move over I'm coming front end REALLY appeals to me.
True, my sister is going from a 650i to an E 'vert. I think she'll like the softer lines compared to the new version. Especially if they're giving those kind of deals.

The 5er does not really need a considerable exterior update as the car is still relatively modern. I would say the same for the E-Klasse as it loses its original distinctive appearance to appear like a larger C-Klasse.
As per the LCI cycle the changes are minimal on the outside and as per M models the M5 will remain untouched as to mess with the front of the car costs money and development time due to the alteration of aerodynamics which is why the current M3 and previous M3 models have not been extensively facelifted like the E92 and E46 respectively.
So will you be offloading your E and buying a 6 series?
