M6 [Spyshots] BMW M6 F12/F13 (Spy pics, Info & Impressions)

The BMW M6 is a high-performance version of the 6 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand from 1983 to 2019 (with a hiatus from 1990 to 2004). Introduced in the coupe body style, the M6 was also built in convertible and fastback sedan ('Gran Coupe') body styles for later generations. An M6 model was built for each of the first three generations of the 6 Series. Production of the M6 ended in 2019 and it was replaced by the BMW M8 (F91/F92/F93) in 2019. Official website: BMW M
Yes, the Chevrolet has the very same lines as the 1 Series E82, except for RWD proportions. Glad the 2 Series F22 is prepearing, I wish it will look different (better) compared to the 1 Series F21.

Got to disagree...the Chevy concept has definitive RWD proportions...short front overhangs, relatively long hood, short rear deck. But it does look like the bastard child of the E82 1er and Lightning McQueen (Ka-chow!).

So it's safe to assume that blue M6 convertible we saw pictures of at a receiving New Jersey port were seen in person by dealer-type folks?

The all-new BMW M6 will be the most powerful super-coupé in BMW’s history when it goes on sale this summer. The M6 gets the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 from the M5, which is good for 552bhp and 502lb ft.
The M6’s rear-drive chassis has been tuned extensively at the Nürburgring and BMW insiders claim that it has the dynamic proficiency to cope with prodigious power outputs.

Although the previous M6, with its cutting-edge construction and V10 engine, was radical when it was launched in 2005, the new model will take things even further. It will again feature a carbonfibre roof and other carbonfibre body panels but will also get carbon-ceramic brake discs and lightweight alloy wheels to boost stopping power and reduce unsprung mass.

A BMW M insider, speaking to Autocar at the Detroit motor show, insisted that its new range-topper would be just as capable a grand tourer as before, despite its sharper focus.

“It’s still a car for daily use,” the insider said. “It’s just as at home on the autobahn as it is at the Nürburgring.”

However, despite the M6’s new-found hard edge, our insider insisted that it should not be compared with a pure sports car such as the Porsche 911. Instead, M is pushing BMW to be given licence to develop its own supercar in the mould of the AMG-developed Mercedes-Benz SLS.

“M wants to build its own car,” said our insider. “BMW has a great heritage of super-coupés and the M6 is the latest part of that. But we also want to do something that we can call a ‘super sports car’.”
The comments are the latest of M division’s attempts to ramp up pressure on BMW to be given the go-ahead to develop its own bespoke model.

Albert Biermann, BMW M’s development chief, told Autocar last year that BMW and M were struggling to find a business case for the supercar.
“We have the skills and we’d love to do it,” he said. “We’ve discussed it several times but we’ve never been able to make the business case. Everything we do has to make money.”

Our insider confirmed that the M6 coupé will be launched at the Geneva show in March. A cabrio is likely to follow by the end of 2012.

It is nothing new to me. But I am not sure the 5 GT is making money.

Bmw,,,, good luck with the 5 GT!!!!

Even if it cost "HALF" of it´s exorbitant price,,,I wouldn´t buy it!!!

I admit it would be the ideal car for the"Hunchback of Notre Dame" with all that rear space,,,,,,

This should be incredibly hot. I just hope the "4-Series" doesn't look too much like the 6-Series to spoil the party.

The front bumper looks more similar to M5 and M3 than 1M. I think I like and the 6 Series is my favorite BMW right now.

I´m afraid what SCOTT claimed about the M6 front end being influenced by the 1M has proven wrong.

Actually, inside the brake vents is the air curtain. You will see how the front aerodynamics below the intakes layer over the bodywork similar to the 1M Coupe. It is evident in that image.

I don't see how # 21, which looks like the bumper lower skirt, will overlay to give a 1M style bumper design. :eusa_doh: There are no vertical parts.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
