M6 [Spyshots] BMW M6 Gran Coupe (Spy pics, Info & Impressions)

The BMW M6 is a high-performance version of the 6 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand from 1983 to 2019 (with a hiatus from 1990 to 2004). Introduced in the coupe body style, the M6 was also built in convertible and fastback sedan ('Gran Coupe') body styles for later generations. An M6 model was built for each of the first three generations of the 6 Series. Production of the M6 ended in 2019 and it was replaced by the BMW M8 (F91/F92/F93) in 2019. Official website: BMW M

Right now, there are two very interesting BMWs that have either been released or are about to be released. Namely, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe (just released) and the F12 BMW M6 which is literally on the verge of official release.

And so, speculation has rightly so centered around the possibility of the ultimate BMW M sedan, a combination of the 6 Series GC and the M6, a car to challenge and crush the 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG. Well, BMW has answered the call and it looks like the M6 Gran Coupe is a real car and judging by the very scant amount of camouflage on the car, is just around the corner as well. One wonders if the M6 and M6 Gran Coupe may bow together or with only a short interval between them.

What makes the M6 Gran Coupe so special?
Following the standard 6-series Gran Coupe, the M6 Gran Coupe is expected to utilize the best BMW has to offer in terms of quality of materials and the best powertrain available in a current BMW. The M6 is expected to be motivated by a derivative of the S63TU motor in the new M5, a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 which produced 560HP in the M5. However, in the M6 Gran Coupe, rumors have pointed to a power bump of 20HP to 580HP. Power will be delivered via a standard 7-Speed DCT transmission.

Yeah Baby! Its coming... The M Flagship. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
For the less consumption=less tax proposed owners there will be the BMW M650d Gran Coupe.

Nice it is already testing, but in fact there is nothing much to test. I still did not think to see it so early.

San Marino you say? Looks gorgeous!

As for the car itself....it better have more power than the M5 because it is going to be heavier. A supposed flagship M model can't lag behind now can it?
And those Xenons? I do hope that's for testing purpose only, because I can't express how cheap it would be to offer the M6 Gran Coupe with LED lights only optional....

But can a mod please merge this thread with the original M6 spy pics thread? I don't see the point of having two seperate ones. Please. It's not like the M6 cabrio and M6 coupe have their own threads too.
So, pretty please, merge them, and rename it to include the M6 GC!

Yea, or the 640i, 650i or even better yet, 640d. None of them will be like the one and only real M6.

Well, M6 Coupe and Convertible are about to be unveiled while the GC might take a bit longer. So it makes sense to keep a separated thread, IMO.

Then, the cabrio should get it's own thread too because it will be launched first ;)

Even Bimmerpost is reporting it like the M6 GC is some kind of stand-alone M model:

"One wonders if the M6 and M6 Gran Coupe may bow together or with only a short interval between them."

Huh? M6 and M6 GC? He means M6 GC and M6 Cabrio, perhaps? Either way, both are M6.

But I see it's not going to happen so I'll shut up :)

M6 Gran Coupe will launch in early 2013. It will give the M5 the opportunity to have a year on the market.

Autocar reports that "Power for the new M6 GranCoupe will come from the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 in the exact same specification as found in the new BMW M5". Autocar were the first to confirm the F10M engine specs too, if I remember correctly.

^^^ But for the interior alone, it will be worth waiting for the M6 GC. 6er interior is VASTLY superior to the 5er. Quality wise and design wise too.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
