M8 [Official] The New BMW M8 Coupé & Convertible (F91 & F92)

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M

Look at this kidneys!
I was already wondering when they would start to take advantage of the depth in the grill, that great detail that is so good in the kidneys, it seems and I hope that some LCI and new models incorporate it.
The year M comes loaded, M2, M3 / M4 CS / CSL, M5 CSL? the XM and this M8 CS or CSL, (competitor of the AMG 73?)
I hope there are more surprises

Nice, good scoop!

My guess is a CS or GTS of sorts. To me, the Club Sport Lite ideology makes more sense lower down the range in more compact M's like the G82 and upcoming M2. Unless they manage to scrap a solid 200-300 Kg from the M8's overall weight, how can a 1.8 ton 2 door coupe be considered Club Sport 'Lite'?

Another possibility could be a racing mule.. ?‍♂️

I really like the 8 but I would never buy a brand new one. Overpriced and depreciates like a rock. Now as CPO.......makes much more sense.

Oh that's definitely a massaged inline-6 melody, so this likely isn't the M8 CSL but a mule to something else, e.g. the rumored limited-run production version of the 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept for BMW M's 50th anniversary?

I doubt they'd bother testing a racing mule in this way, FWIW. About the only thing that would make any sense in this regard is if they were building a car for GT2 regulations, and wanted a corresponding road going model to match, but I seriously doubt it's that.

Haven't heard that rumor. Anyway Bimmerpost insiders are adamant about this here not being an M8

The rumours mostly seemed to stem from Motor.es in August last year when this prototype first showed up, and tie in with the idea that the 8 series will at some point receive the engine from the X8/XM, which seems plausible.

The rumours of a production CSL Hommage have obviously lingered for a while, and I'd love it if they were true - but I don't have enough faith in BMW to think they'd go to those lengths. Why cancel "M Next" if they're still going to make a standalone vehicle?

Having said all that, I'm not staking anything on any theory so far, too many options, not enough to go on.

Then perhaps they are making a limited-run mid-engine hybrid inline-6 standalone supercar for M GmbH's 50th anniversary in the end. Which would explain the rear window vents feeding air to a mid-mounted engine, the rear windshield being covered from prying eyes, the regular 8er's front bumper being used here instead of the M8's and its larger air intakes, hell, the entire front engine bay looking like it's empty.

But why then manufacture this red 3D-effect custom-made M Next style grille for what is just a disposable 8er-based test mule? Teasing us with M Next style hints?

New BMW 8 Series Convertible Spy Shots Remind Us Changes Are Coming
Expect a nip in the front, tuck in the back, and some tweaks inside.

It's been a minute since we saw a camouflaged BMW 8 Series strutting around in public. It's been two minutes since we caught a convertible test vehicle – in fact, this is only our second sighting with the first occurring way back in May 2021.

That's not to say BMW isn't making progress on updating its entire 8 Series lineup. We've also caught the coupe and four-door Gran Coupe wearing a bit of camo, and they all look pretty much the same in the front. The updated 8 should see a grille nearly the same size and design as the current model, flanked by narrower headlights. Heavier cladding still hides the lower fascia, so we can't see exactly what's happening with the corner vents.

Differences between the new coupe, Gran Coupe, and convertible should be more pronounced in the rear, though changes from the current model appear to be very slight on all fronts. These fresh convertible spy shots suggest the taillights will see a minor redesign, along with very small changes to the scalloped corners of the rear fascia.

The current sighting focuses exclusively on the exterior, but our previous batch of convertible spy photos confirmed a larger center infotainment screen is coming for the interior. We don't expect any powertrain changes, though slight bumps in horsepower are always possible.

There's been surprisingly little activity in the world of 8 Series test cars, at least in public. The images in this article capture a prototype on the streets of Munich, but we've only had a handful of sightings of all 8 Series styles throughout 2021. Exactly what that means with regards to a debut is pure speculation at this point, though a reveal sometime in early-to-mid 2022 as a 2023 model is certainly plausible.

The 8 is again a case in which the concept killed the production car. It was so much better looking with its shark nose and slimmer lights. Regretfully they will not bring the sharknose back with this facelift.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the 8 series (that hasn't changed). Some weeks ago I encountered a brilliant white M8 Competition Coupe in Munich ... we drove head-to-head in traffic for some time. What shall I say? Stating it wasn't impressive with its stance would be a lie... looking at the used car market I saw, that you can get a low-mileage 18 month old one for sub 120k€ (even though used car market prices are very high in general) ... imho this is a bargain for its performance!

I agree. I wasn't big fan of the 8 series, but lately I have seen couple nicely specced M850i plus one really nice M8 and I have to say, I changed my opinion. 8 series looks really good on the road, it has presence. Especially M8. But it has to be 2-door Coupe version. I'm not fan of stretched Gran Coupe design.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
