X5 M / X6 M [Official] BMW X6 M Thread

The X5 M is the high-performance variant of the X5. In April 2009, the X6 M version was announced, with a 408 kW (547 hp) version of the BMW S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The BMW X5 M and X6 M are the first vehicles from BMW M GmbH to have xDrive all-wheel-drive system and automatic transmissions, and are also crossovers as opposed to passenger cars.
Looks like Jon was quite close with his latest impression:

Feels great to come close to the actual car. Can't wait to see the official pics and see this car in person. :usa7uh:

We have now seen pictures, and specs on the engine. Price, anyone?

Kudos to Jonsibal on that photoshop. You were right up their alley after all. :)

BMW's quest to offer a BMW for every desire and nameless need is highly appearling and seductive here. While I'm a little underwhelmed with the ride height of the X6 M everything else looks stellar. The X5 M is the one I've been waiting for for almost ten years now. That's where the excitement is for me.

I knew I saw Launch Control being tested........Great info....I'm a huge fan of intelligent/performance oriented AWD systems. My last 4 auto's have all had AWD....and they were not all SUV's.As cars have grown in size and weight....I've always felt having 4 wheels pulling vs 2 had great potential in the performance driving arena (Think Nissan GT-R).I'm glad to hear that BMW is working on a system that can throw 100% of the the torque to the rear wheels and a kill switch if you don't want the system engaged.Any word on a launch control system on the X"M"'s? I saw an X5M testing on the track and it sure looked like they were testing a launch control system.......max gas petal deflection.......screaming max RPM's and a violent hard acceleration forward. Then again....maybe they were just doggin the transmission in an endurance test Thanks! PalBay A further option in the M Manual mode is to activate the Launch Control
feature, which enables the driver to accelerate from a standstill with maximum
performance. To activate Launch Control, the driver stops the vehicle, moves the
gear selector into the M/S position and activates the Sports Power mode, as well
as the M Dynamic mode, or respectively, the DSC-Off mode. Then, with the
transmission in stage M1, the driver presses down the brake pedal and moves the
accelerator to at least 60% throttle, setting Launch Control to standby. Standby
status is confirmed by “starter’s flag” symbol in the instrument cluster. As soon
as the driver releases the brake pedal, the vehicle will accelerate with full power in
“genuine racing style.” In the process, the M Sports Automatic transmission
automatically upshifts at the ideal points, with the fastest possible shifts and
optimum wheelspin control. The driver may terminate the Launch Control process
at any time by reducing the throttle position.
Scott... were the "Official Pic's" shot in Charleston,SC.....the Bridge looks like the one that connects the City of Charleston to Mount Pleasant and the trees look like South Carolina Water Oaks.A little South Carolina "Home Cooking"!!! .:D:usa7uh: Thanks! PalBay

Palbay, The license plates look South Carolina, don't they. The MA ones they used for test mules.

Yep......I do believe Home Cooking.Glad to see if it's true.......nice to include SC in a big BMW Product Marketing Launch. Thanks! PalBay

I like it, but, in looks, it's nothing special. Even if performance is outstanding, the looks just don't stand out. Seems like it might take fastest SUV place though, but is it even going to be considered an SUV competing against ML63 AMG and Cayenne Turbo S?

This certainly going to be the fastest SUV for the time being. What is remarkbale with the M engineers is that they have achieve this objective with less displacement.

It is a mean looking car but the engineer in me is more marvelled at the engine specs.

Engine Spec:

Displacement: 4.4 litre V8
HP: 555 @ 6000 rpm
HP/litre=126 HP/l
Torque: 500 lb.ft (1500-5650 rpm)
0-60 mph: 4.5 secs

BMW X6 M and BMW X5 M Official Specs

More torque than the TT V10 in RS6 despite smaller displacement.

Yes pictures were completed in South Carolina , Germany and Abu Dhabi .
I was not involved with this model nor the X5.
I was doing something "else".

Anyone notice flared wheel fender arches on X5 but flat on X6. Whats up with that? or the whole fender itself is flared on X6? Need hi-res pics soon. Damn embargo.

Scott,

My compliments to the M engineers on the oustanding work. The engine spec and the performance numbers are beyond impressive.

I can't breathe normaly since I first saw the X5M a minute ago...
AMAZING :icondrool:icondrool:icondrool
the X5 is one of the most beautiful and well finished BMW's and that one is the best...
4.5sec - 0-100
Soon we'll see a BMW doing 0-100 in 4 seconds with that engine I'm sure :usa7uh:

Nice specs but it's TT V8 not NA one.

I really like the mega torque, this is a heavy cra and torque is what moves kinda trucks, finally a mega torquey BMW:D

The front bumper looks like what after maket tuner would do to the car..but still waiting for seeing it IRL at shanghai autoshow next month to make my final judgement if it presents over here of course.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
